Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on this part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island did not last long. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners weren't able to dance with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." When I outgrew my male friends, I quit. Many dancers make the transition into acting. For Brugel, it was her drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. She was chosen to play the principal part for Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. For the past twenty years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
